What is DLC and what does DLC mean? DLC is an abbreviation for Downloadable Content. In essence, DLC is additional content created for an already released piece of software or game and is generally distributed via the internet by the game's publisher or the developer. If you've ever downloaded and installed a patch or update, DLC is no different, as it works in a similar way. There could be several reasons behind the release of Downloadable Content (DLC). It could be that the game required a revamp or the publisher wants to gain additional revenue from the game previously purchased. In some cases DLC can be free.
DLC can range from cosmetic content, such as images, videos and skins, but more commonly, new in-game content such as extra levels, characters, additional mods, graphic optimization and larger expansions that may contain a mix of such content as a continuation of the original game. In some games, multiple DLC (including future DLC not yet released) may be bundled as part of a "season pass" or "Game Package" - typically at a discount in comparison to purchasing each DLC individually. This is quite common with the online game platform, Steam.
